I'm not too happy with Disney at the moment. I really hope that DVDs dont go the same way that VHS went or even the way of BETA tapes... Disney will be releasing Chicken Little on Blu-ray disc on March 20th...

Well, you know the drill. Have to make everything bigger and better. But, I am NOT going to get a Blu-Ray. I only just started getting on the DVD bandwagon.

It took DVDs quite a long time to overtake VHS, so even if Blu-Ray does become the standard, it will be a while yet.

^ I agree Butterscotch - At our local HMV there is the tiniest sliver of shelving for the Blu Ray Discs and there are 8 films at max on them. The last time I was in I actually heard two of the staff talking about taking them off because they weren't selling and needed more room for TV boxsets

oh ok thanx Butters. Sheesh there isn't a huge difference though except data space, so isn't this disk better for recording than selling Disney movies on?

LOL! I love reading these old threads! I have no idea what I was worried about. The only thing I find annoying is that now when you buy a DVD it comes with a blu ray disc as well... It was completely pointless for me until we got a PS3 which plays Blu Rays. I had them sitting around and wasn't able to view the special features on them.

Yeah, and at least with Disney even if they package them together they still come out costing about the same as the DVD would have on it's own. I still don't intend to switch to Blu-Rays unless it becomes absolutely necessary (which I don't see happening any time soon) but at least if I did have to switch to a Blu-Ray player I at least already have some of my Disney movies on Blu-Ray and wouldn't have to go and get new copies of those thanks to the dual-packaging. I don't really care for the special features myself save for deleted scenes on occasion. When I get a copy of a movie, I get it because I want to watch the movie and nothing more.

I don't have a Blu Ray player yet. I'm just happy that they have the capability of playing DVDs so that I don't have to go out and replace all of my Disney DVDs that I ONLY have on DVD.

The first movie I ever bought on blu-ray was Sleeping Beauty. While I didn't own a blu-ray player at the time, I already knew HD was a far superior format and could see the writing on the wall for DVDs. Knowing how the Disney Vault worked, I figured that I'd get my favorite movie on blu-ray while I could. As it turned out, a few weeks later Black Friday in the U.S. had some great deals on HDTVs and blu-ray players.
I have bought a few movies on blu-ray that I previously owned on DVD but not every time. It usually comes down to how much I love the movie and the quality of the bonus features. For instance, Star Wars DVDs looked very nice in blu-ray, but the Star Wars blu-ray looked even sharper. If it's one of my very favorite Disney or Pixar films, I will buy the blu-ray when it comes out. For instance, the bonus features on the Cinderella blu-ray were very disappointing, but the film itself looks stunning.

I very much intend on purchasing a Blu-ray player at Wal-Mart's Black Friday festivities. Might as well start the transition over because I have a feeling that DVD's will phase out the VHS's did.
Shoot... I remember Beta tapes... >.<

I hope they don't phase out of DVD's so quickly. They're cheaper. That being said, so far I have been very pleased with the restoration quality of the sound and visuals from the blu-rays I have purchased. They really do live upto the hype. Animation has never looked so gorgeous.
