But isn't saying something is the best/worst an opinion?

From what I was taught, the proper way to state an opinion is using the term "favorite". Mainly because "best" and "worst" follow closer to a factual statement. However if you wish to use the terms "best" or "worst" then you should feel free to do so. Afterall, who am I to say what can and can't be said. I hope I wasn't coming across as pushy or disrespectful. I apologise if I did. That was never my intension.

I see what you are saying an no you are not being pushy or disrespectful, however is it possible for The best/worst to be a fact? To me its a term of comparison. For example in one of these music polls that are done here if there was one for Can You Feel the Love Tonight Vs. Beauty and the Beast and you say love Can You Feel the Love Tonight better than Beauty and the Beast than to say its the best song to me is just a way of saying that you like it better.

No, there's a big difference in saying A is better than B and saying you like A better than B At any rate, let's get back on topic

And I'll bring it back on subject! I think that the 80s-90s music is more of our generation, obviously. But it focuses on being more upbeat in general, even the love songs. There are more light heareted and fun too. More popish, plus I think there's more of them in the Disney movies, at least with words. The older films reflect their time. They're more balladish and classic. They remind of the golden age of musicals. They're more slow and pretty then anything else. Its not normally one person singing either, its mostly choirs of people that almost blend to sound like interments. There isn't a lot of songs in the older Disney movies either, at least with words when compared to the recent Disney Films. So basically, what I'm saying, is that I don't think they're better necessarily but just adapting to the popular music style and they two totally different styles that I could never choose between the two of them.

I think the music from the period in question is a major reason why some call the TLM through TLK era the second golden age of Disney animation. Disney has always had stunning visuals, even in their less than stellar films, but the classics are regarded as such because the music touches people deeply.
I think the most interesting thing about the classic Disney songs is that they're so different from each other. While each love song has similarities, they also have some differences. It all goes back to Walt's idea that "you can't top pigs with pigs." The recent films are much more like Broadway musicals(Ashman's influence) than Walt's films were.

The singers they got for there time frames of movie music were just terrific,in my opinion of course. There are some very unforgettable names attached to those voices, and when you hear the name, the song(s) pop straight into your head...well at least they do into mine.

You hit the proverbial nail on the head. The first golden age ended with the Tin Pan Alley music of Richard and Robert Sherman. The second golden age WAS Alan Menken (with Ashman and Schwartz). Both are AWESOME!!!

I love all the movies mentioned and all the songs in them. I do have to say this though - there really hasn't been any Disney movies lately that have incorporated the Disney musicals into them. I know that Enchanted is but I think its the first one since Home on the Range, which I haven't seen and don't think it was much of hit. Potentially Disney movies and music from this time period could be great - if they worked on making those types of movies.

Ya'll forgot The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas, which also have good music. Hercules and HBND were made in the later 90s, but still amazing. I miss those good quality Disney movies! I couldn't agree with you more! those movies are timeless.. i must say..

From what I've picked up I believe this period is also known as The Disney Renaissance which actually ran from '89-'99 spanning ten years
