I'd watch it. Why? I'm a sucker for musical films when they're done right of course. I mean if it ends up flopping and Disney tries another one I might skip out on it. .___.

I'm probably about to tick nearly everybody off with this news. I'm stating it anyway because it's the truth.
This has been confirmed by Disney. A live-action film is in development. A director has been signed on.
The bright side. It will be the musical adaptation just like Broadway.
If I had not heard the last bt of news. My skeptism would be through the roof! Ever since the Les Miserables film wa released. I was wondering if Disney would pursue this. I loved the stage musical so I have more hope for it. It's always more promising when you have a solid foundation. In my opinion, the musical expanded the story in the best possible way.
If you did not enjoy the stage musical. Then obviously this won't appealing to you.

I've never seen the stage musical, so this would be a great way to get introduced to it if you never have. It could be good if they do it right.

According to a couple of sources (the validity of which I am uncertain of) I have found the production has ben titled The Beast', will be directed by Oscar Winning director Bill Condon and written by Evan Spiliotopoulos who has written other Disney scripts such as Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure, Jungle Book 2 and Pooh's Heffalump Movie. I believe it's still pending if Alan Menkin, renowned Disney composer who partnered with the late Howard Ashman had brought us the amazing music of the original classic Beauty and the Beast will be participating in this project. Sources: screenrant.com/disney-beauty-beast-live-action-movie-remake/www.cinemablend.com/new/Disney-Making-Live-Action-Beauty-Beast-Movie-43326.htmlMy mother discussed this with me not too long ago over Pizza. Live action retellings of classic fairytales is a fad now and Maleficent which from my perspective could have been inspired by 'Wicked' (though I have no idea), arguably set the scene. There is even a teaser trailer for a Disney live action Cinderella as well which I believe my second source here includes in their article. BatB has always been my mother's favorite Disney films let alone one of very few she enjoys at all and she seemed excited about this. I'm a bit skeptical about this writer though, not my favorite films, his listed works but I do have some faith in this film even if it's blind due to being a fan of the animate classic. This film as yet to be cast as far as I know and my mother checked IMDB that day at Pizza with no results.

I'm going to presume this will fall along the lines of what they have done with Maleficent and Cinderella as opposed to what I originally hoped for.
I won't deny I wanted Disney to create a live action film of the Broadway musical after Les Miserables was such a success.
Now I'm neutral. We'll see what happens.

Aww... I think Emma Watson in a doll... A "belle" so to speak. With her being a good person in real life, it kind of has me excited. Because I know a good person is playing her. Either way they go with this, so far I'm good.

My understanding is that this is supposed to be a musical and Emma Watson is not trained in singing. I hope she can learn well enough in a hurry.

Who will Disney cast next from Downton Abbey? (Nothing wrong with that, it's just kind of interesting that they've cast 2 major leads in movies from the same TV show)

I was doing some research, BRP, and discovered that the day that it was confirmed with Emma that she got the role, she enlisted in some vocal training classes. She may surprise you yet.

I would describe my stance on Emma Watson's singing ability as neutral since I have never heard her sing. I just hope that since they intend to go full scale musical with this project that Emma Watson will be able to believably and credibly sing when she needs to. Otherwise, this entire project could be in trouble, which would be too bad for everyone involved.
From my perspective, Disney has given us very mixed results in their live action retellings of the animated classics. While I believe Cinderella to be quite possibly the best fairy tale out of Disney since Beauty and the Beast in 1991, what they did with Maleficent shows me that they are fully capable of insulting one of their own classics too.
I want Beauty and the Beast to be great. But I need to be convinced that they're going to do it the right way. Casting doesn't persuade me one way or the other. The end result will speak for itself.

If this is a musical adaptation. The film will be modeled after what was done for the 1994 Broadway production.
An extension of the animated film. Not a re-imagining but if you only love the 1991 movie. Then already I can tell you it won't be your cup of tea.
I absolutley LOVE the musical! So I'm not worried about how the script will be executed.
I am however on the cautious side in terms of the casting announcements. It is truly a rarity to simply pluck someone out who has no legit training (vocal lessons are not nearly of the same caliber) and they turn out to have astonishing, polished, emotionally driven vocals. Heck, you'd be lucky if you have one of the those features at all. Musical theatre performers usually begin training in High school and they delve deeper in college. As is often misunderstood by the general public. When a person who sings pop music comes into sing theatre. The score is not an easy task. But when pop stars are cast people assume it is easy to sing. But when in comparison to an authentic vocalist who has the knowledge of how to use vocal chords and display sincerity in the performance. It's not a question the pop star is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy out of their league.
Ms.Waston and her leading men evidently do not have a backround in theatre vocal delivery. As such my concerns are raised. If this were strictly being portrayed as a drama like Cinderella. I would not be. But given the matter at hand. It is not unreasonable for someone who is a massive fan of musical theatre and is familar with how a real perfomer would be able to mesh quality singing with genuine acting to be nervous about if this will work in the end.
